The Name Jar is a children's picture book that follows the character Unehi through her transition of being the new kid in school. This story follows Unehi as she discovers that none of her classmates can pronounce her Korean name. Instead of telling her classmates her name, she tells her class that she will choose a name out of a jar that will be her new name. Ultimately, her classmates and Unehi discover that her real name is what matters, and the name jar disappears. The story ends with Unehi teaching her classmates how to pronounce her Korean name. I like this book because it shows children that differences in people are what makes everyone special and unique, and that no one should change who they are to fit in.
