The Importance of Friendship for Youth with Attention- Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder is an article that looks at the experiences that children with ADHD have with their friendships. To understand and research this topic, one must know the differences between peer acceptance and friendship. A child may be peer accepted but not have friendships with others. The article also adds information on the skills needed for friendship in which many children with ADHD lack in which leads to lower amounts of friendships with these children. With much more information on this topic such as parental influences on friendships and friendship interventions for children with ADHD, there is much information that an adult would be able to learn about the nature of friendships for children with ADHD. I like this article because I think a lot of people see peer acceptance as friendship when many students with ADHD actually have trouble making friends. Friends are a big part of having a healthy and positive life, so it is important for educators and adults to be well informed in the difficulties of friendship making and ways to support students with these impairments.
