When Friendship Hurts is an article that discusses the realities of the lack of training that teachers have with bullying and the complexities of friendships in the classroom. The world is not a perfect place where children will always be kind to one another as any teacher would wish for in the classroom. The article goes on to explain that children's "meanness" is actually a useful function for developing social skills, compassion, and empathy. It is important for teachers to understand why "meanness" happens in the classroom, and how can teachers do a better job preventing such behavior from their students. I like this article because I think that all teachers should be well educated in the behaviors and signs of bullying, and how to positively react to it so that children learn from their mistakes rather than just be simply scolded.
