Chicken Sunday tells a story of two children, Stewart and Winston, and their grandma Ms. Eula. Another girl named Patricia whose babushka had passed away two years prior had been "adopted" in as one of Ms. Eula's grandchildren. The story follows these three children as they want to buy Ms. Eula an Easter bonnet from a shop in town. When they all go to purchase the hat for Ms. Eula, they are framed for throwing eggs at the shop. To show that they are good kids, Patricia teaches Stewart and Winston how to decorate eggs in a way that her babushka had shown her. They deliver the eggs to the shop where Mr. Kodinski, the shop owner, is overjoyed by the sight of the decorated eggs which remind him of his home country. The children end up selling the eggs in Mr. Kodinski's shop and are able to get the bonnet for Ms. Eula.
I like this book because it shows that anyone can come together and be friends and family no matter what differences in heritage, religoin, etc.
