Welcome
everyone!
This resource
website has been formed around the central theme of “friendship”. Included in
this website are award winning children’s books, academic sources, and other
resources from the internet. They are categorized above for easy searching. This collection is comprised of books that are anywhere from early elementary to high school level students.
Why I chose the
theme of “friendship” for my resource website is because I believe that
friendships are necessary for not only a healthy life, but for a positive look
on education. From the first day of school children are put into classrooms and
begin to pick and choose the friends they will make for the rest of their time
in school. These friendships can make or break a child not only emotionally and
mentally, but also academically.
Another reason
why I chose this theme is because friendship can be seen in all different
cultures, countries, and kinds of people around the world. There are so many
different kinds of friendships as well that many students forget to
acknowledge.
In this website,
I have included resources and books that carry many different messages about
friendship. There are books that look at multicultural friendships, friendships
with people with disabilities, friendships with family members or even animals,
bullying, and differences in friendships between children and adolescences.
How I intend to
use this particular theme in my classroom would be during the beginning of the
school year. During this time, some children may be new to the school, to the
country, or perhaps has been at the school for some time. This large mix of
students would allow me to teach lessons using these resources on the
importance of positive and healthy friendships. These resources would also
allow me to show students the importance of friendship with all people
including those who are multicultural, with special needs, etc.
Please take a
look at all the books and resources on this website and feel free to contact me
with any questions or comments.
